Kettering Town Regeneration

Centred on the transformation of the former Bingo Hall on the High Street - a landmark steeped in Kettering's history. Over the years it has hosted countless memories and events as Bothe a beloved gig venue, theatre, and a bustling bingo hall.

Our vision is simple: a town centre full of life, opportunity, and a strong sense of community.

Project Overview

The Kettering Town Regeneration project is all about breathing life back into the historic Gala Bingo Hall/Theatre. This iconic building, unused since 2018, is set to become a welcoming hub for creativity, collaboration, and community support. We’re working to create spaces where people can connect, work, and enjoy the arts, right in the heart of Kettering

Steps to Achieve Our Vision:

  • Initial Renovation: Complete essential works, such as asbestos removal and securing the building, to prepare it for community use.

  • Community Engagement: Collaborate with local residents, businesses, and groups to refine the design and ensure the space meets diverse needs.

  • Phased Opening: Launch the front section within the first 12 months of acquisition to begin hosting activities and generating momentum.

  • Diverse Functionality: Develop spaces tailored for arts, events, co-working, and community services to cater to a broad range of users.

The Business Case

Reviving the Gala Bingo Hall isn’t just about restoring a building - it’s about creating a brighter future for Kettering:

  • Boosting Local Economy: Bringing in businesses, visitors, and creative projects to energise the town.

  • Supporting Well-being: Offering affordable, accessible spaces for collaboration, relaxation, and mental health support.

  • Celebrating Heritage: Preserving the building’s character while adapting it for modern use.

Community Ownership Fund and Latest Updates

Earlier this year, we applied to the Community Ownership Fund and, just three days before the general election was called, we received confirmation that our application was with the minister for approval. However, once an election is called, no decisions can be made until the government either returns or a new government is formed. This has delayed further communication, and we are currently uncertain if the Community Ownership Fund still exists under the new government. We are actively lobbying for clarity and answers, as we cannot proceed with a process that may no longer be in place. Despite this, we’re moving forward with determination.

The building’s Asset of Community Value (ACV) status has lapsed, and we’re in the process of re-registering it. We’re also exploring the government’s new proposals around the right to buy community properties - a promising option for securing this valuable space for local use.
